[GDL] Beginning revision for public law
Dec. 21st, 2019 12:30 pmI ended up taking yesterday off entirely. I went into London to pick up some gifts I'd left at work and then did a comprehensive tour of Borough Market, where I ate many tiny slivers of cheese, many tiny pieces of bread dipped in olive oil, and one or two tiny pieces of fudge. Then I came home, ordered pizza and watched some Modern Family, and went to bed too late to earn any points for SleepTown*.
Today I need to set out the structure for my revision over this period. So today's lists of tasks will be:
I'm going to be doing as many practice questions as I can and be doing them initially from my essay plans but under timed conditions, and then under timed conditions without my essay plans.
The reason I am setting this out on Dreamwidth instead of just consigning it to my private journal or putting it on Twitter is last year I got into a real state doing exam prep. It was as though I had never sat an exam before. I tried to learn 12-15 pages of notes for each topic through rote memorisation and did NO practice questions because I was in such a state of terror -- and this is so out-of-character for me. I've always been good at exams because it suits my preferred learning technique and, prior to last year, I never really found them that stressful. I used the structure above to get an very high 2:1 (one damn mark off of a first!) on a paper I was very concerned about at Cambridge. So this is me making a promise to myself, I guess, that I do actually know how to do exams and how to do them without having a breakdown and as long as I do this and DON'T get into a state of STUDY ALL THE THINGS 12 HOURS A DAY EVERY DAY EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME OH MY FUCK I'M GOING TO FAIL AND DIE then I'm going to be absolutely fine.
Aside from exam prep, here are the other things I would like to try to get done today but no sweat if I don't:
* SleepTown is this great app (for me, anyway) which helps to encourage "healthy" sleep habits. One of my anxiety problems this year has been compulsively checking my phone before going to sleep or when I wake up during the night and this app is hopefully going to help me break out of the habit. I've literally been in bed for two hours hissing at myself "go to sleep u fuck" while furiously scrolling Twitter or Instagram without any sense of pleasure or curiosity. I don't enjoy doing that and I would like to stop. Plus,
happydork and I are in a SleepTown circle and building a wonder of the world and that's pretty awesome.
Today I need to set out the structure for my revision over this period. So today's lists of tasks will be:
- Type up my notes on the final chapter of my public law textbook
Create revision outline: what topic areas my revision will be split into, what questions are likely to come up on each topic (problem/essay), what revision resources I need to prepare for each topicCreate rough timetable for daily revision
